Dr Willy Lam Speaking at HKGCC on China's 12th Five-Year Plan

Our China Politics & Foreign Policy Expert, Willy Lam will be speaking at Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) on China’s 12th Five-Year Plan.  Below please find the event info:

China’s Five-Year Plan is a critically important tool used by the government to achieve its development objectives by mapping out in five-year cycles the country’s future progress via guidelines, policy frameworks, and soft targets for policymakers at all levels of government. And the 12th Five-Year Plan (The Plan) would be ratified at the March 2011 sessions of the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (2011 NPC & CPPCC).

According to the Chinese government, The Plan’s key themes are restructuring the economy, ameliorating social inequality and protecting the environment, which would have a momentous impact on the China’s development throughout this new decade. To get a more thorough understanding of the 2011 NPC & CPPCC and the significance of The Plan, HKGCC has invited Dr Willy Lam, Adjunct Prof of History and Political Economy at the Chinese University of Hong Kong to discuss the sessions. Dr Lam is an expert on Chinese economic and political policy-making; he is a former senior China analyst for CNN whose commentaries have played a big role in shaping public opinion. Dr Lam will explain and analyze proposals made at the two sessions as well as highlights of 12th Five Year Plan (2011-2015).
