Prof Detlef Zühlke is regarded as the spiritual father of the smartfactory idea and realization, which is now named by the buzzword “Industrie 4.0”. He is invited to numerous keynote presentations around the world.
Prof Zühlke holds the chair for production automation at the Kaiserslautern University of Technology/Germany since 1991. Since 2008 he was appointed director of the innovative factory systems department at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence DFKI in Kaiserslautern.
He is the founder and since 2005 chairman of the executive board of smartfactoryKL – an industry driven research and demonstration center for smart factory technologies, which is recognized as the birthplace of the Industrie 4.0 paradigm. He has been consulting many companies and organisations and has given numerous invited keynotes on national and international events. His research has been recognized by the Borchers medal of honor, the medal of honor of the German Society of Engineers and the IFAC outstanding service award. He is a guest professor at the Univ. of Cincinnati and was awarded the honorate doctor degree from Sibiu University Romania. Dr. Zuehlke has published over 200 journal and conference papers, 4 books, and numerous other technical publications.
