Our beloved adventure speaker, Rob Lilwall, is going to kick off his new expedition – Walking Home From Mongolia – which is a even tougher attempt of his well-known Cycling Home from Siberia Expedition!
Below please find the announcement from Rob himself:
I am to announce my major new expedition – Walking Home From Mongolia
It’s going to be the toughest thing I have ever done.
In summary, this winter, myself and my good friend Leon are going to set off from the windswept wilderness of the Gobi Desert in Mongolia, and then walk south for over 3,500 km until we reach my home in Hong Kong. As well as travelling by foot, we will also be carrying carrying portable kayaks in our backpacks to make use of the waterways we encounter en route (namely the Yellow and the Pearl River, which both flow south for extended stretches).
The expedition will be a sequel to my Cycling Home From Siberia expedition – and though not be so long in duration, it will be just as grueling and exciting, and once again I will be trying to get “home”. Adventures along the way will include:
– Walking through the Gobi Desert as winter sets in
– Hiking along a deserted section of the Great Wall
– Paddling down the gorges of the Yellow River for almost 1000km
– Trudging through the snow swept hills of central China until we finally make it to the skyscrapers of Hong KongAlso exciting, is that National Geographic have commissioned a TV series about the expedition so we will be filming it extensively – Leon is a professional cameraman so he will play a key role in this.
We are seriously excited about all this, and would love to keep you posted on how we get on. The website and other social media is has now just gone live, so please do click on these links to sign up for updates from blogs/videos, twitter, fa
cebook , rss. Also, we will be raising money for Viva – a charity which works with children at risk around the world, and who I have been working for in Hong Kong for the past year. We are aiming to raise as much money as possible to help these children, so we would be grateful if you wanted to show your support to us, and help children by sponsoring us. If you are in the UK you can do that through Virgin Giving. If you are in Hong Kong or the USA, the donation pages will be coming shortly. This is really a major goal for the journey, so please do consider giving.
Also, if you have connections with a company who would like to sponsor us either with gear, or would like some really good branding, then please do download our sponsors pack from the website, or get in touch.
Our start date is scheduled for November 1st, so we have much to do in order to get ready, and we will be keep our website blog updated with the training and preparation that we are undertaking.
Finally, please do forward this on to any friends or contacts who you think would be interested, we’re keen to share it with as many people as possible!
We have a long, hard journey ahead of us, but we’re incredibly excited about it, so please keep in touch and let us know your thoughts!
Look forward to letting you know more, best wishes
Rob
We wish Rob the best of luck for the new expedition!
