Belgians kiss. The Japanese bow. Americans shake hands. In today’s global marketplace, we’re required to navigate business practices and social protocols from many cultures. But this is only the beginning. With so much of culture hidden from view, outside of our conscious awareness, it’s imperative that organizations and their employees have a deeper understanding of what contributes to cross-cultural success.
This presentation takes an insightful look at the impact of culture on global teams and international business – how differences in communication, decision-making, negotiation and management styles can affect the dynamics of an intercultural workgroup. A wide variety of business cases, examples and anecdotes – some humorous, many eye-opening – highlight critical issues in a practical, relatable way.
Participants will discover a new tool to assess their own assumptions, attitudes and behaviors. They will learn how to compare their own cultural values to the norms of other countries, providing new insight on how they can work more effectively in intercultural groups. And, perhaps most importantly, they will have a safe way to discuss cultural differences with others.
The presentation is designed to increase the cross-cultural competence of any person doing business internationally. MODERATOR. An effective moderator for a business event earns the client’s trust by understanding their mission, presents a credible image and voice in front of the audience, and creates a confident and efficient environment on stage for other speakers. Ryan frequently serves as moderator of conferences and events with executive keynotes, VIP speakers and guests, panel discussions, research presentations, executive education, corporate announcements, partner meetings and product pitches.
EMCEE. Ryan serves as emcee for events with strong business purpose and content, such as corporate gala dinners, award ceremonies and product launches. As an example, for the past five years, he has been emcee for the EMEA CHANNEL ACADEMY AWARDS at the Salles des Etoiles in Monaco, the largest venue in the principality. The awards program features live voting with an audience of 900 executives from more than 50 countries.
FACILITATOR. As a facilitator of interactive workshops, Ryan has worked extensively with smaller groups on training programs, executive education and professional exchange. As an example, he facilitates the R2B SUMMIT in Abu Dhabi, a meeting of retail executives from across the region to discuss and debate strategy, trends and industry outlook.
